Specialization / Research Area

Dr. Sigríður Kristjánsdóttir is the founder of the master program in Planning in Iceland. She holds a B.Sc. in geography from the University of Iceland. While in the undergraduate program she received a Fulbright grant to study urban geography at the University of Minnesota. She received a master´s degree in urban planning at the University of Washington, Seattle, in 2000 where she studied on a Valle Scholarship as an outstanding master´s student. In 2007 she received a Ph.D. degree from the University of Birmingham, UK, specialising in urban morphology. Dr. Kristjánsdóttir is a director of the master programme in planning at the Agricultural University of Iceland where she has been an assistant professor since 2004. Her research has focused on the formation and development of urban areas as a part of wider territory. Global climate changes, planning and the tensions of Sustainable, looking at the tension between ecology, equity and economy and the conflict that it creates; development conflict, resource conflict and property conflict. Kristjánsdóttir is an active contributor to international research projects, particularly collaboration between the Nordic countries.
