This study is based on data from the health inspections of competition and show horses at major events, Klár í keppni, and includes horses presented at Landsmót hestamanna between 2012 and 2026. The aim is to monitor changes in important welfare indicators over time and to identify the main factors associated with the welfare of competition horses. By comparing findings across different years, the study makes it possible to assess whether changes have occurred in health status, condition, and other variables reflecting equine welfare. It also seeks to identify key influencing factors such as age, sex, use, competition discipline, and conditions at the event venue. The results are expected to provide valuable insight into the status and development of welfare in Icelandic competition horses. In addition, the study offers an evidence-based foundation for future research, policy development, and practical improvements aimed at promoting horse welfare and supporting professional standards within the Icelandic horse community.
