Rætur Framtíðar is a public symposium that brings together universities, businesses, farmers, and citizens to discuss food security and sustainable land use in Iceland. The programme explores topics such as regenerative agriculture, mushroom cultivation, aquaponics, organic waste management, ecosystem restoration, and sustainability education.

Talking to and hearing from farmers who have implemented ideas popularized abroad and academically vetted can help us understand what does and does not work here in Iceland. Sharing their experience, successes and failures, can help others expend less time and energy in optimizing their own strategies moving forward.

By providing a space for specialists and private citizens to interact and share ideas, network and collaborate, Rætur Framtíðar endeavors to foster the conversations and build the relationships that help create a better future for food security in Iceland.

As global warming and disruptions to global supply chains increase the need for resilient food systems, the symposium highlights innovative approaches to local food production, regenerative agriculture, soil health, agroecological approaches, resource management, and circular nutrient use. Through presentations, discussion, and networking, participants will share knowledge, experiences, and practical solutions to help strengthen food security and sustainability in Iceland.
