SUNRISE fosters the agroecological transition by creating a network of agroecological living labs (AELLs) across 10 European countries, combining 4 existing and 6 emerging living labs. A living lab is a real-world environment where researchers, users, businesses, and public actors collaboratively co-create, test, and refine innovations through continuous, user-centered experimentation on sustainable practices and value chains. The SUNRISE project encompasses 6 agroecological concepts within its framework: 1) soil health, 2) crop diversification, 3) reduced inputs, 4) crop/animal production, 5) biocontrol, and 6) biodiversity and ecosystem services. The LbhÍ specifically contributes to concepts 1, 3, 4, and 6.

To do so, at the LbhÍ we have founded the agroecological living lab “Mycolab Vesturland” in collaboration with Sveppasmiðja ehf. Within “Mycolab Vesturland” we want to co-create ideas and solutions for an agroecological approach to food production. Closing nutrient cycles within the local industry, and including the next generation of producers and researchers (students of all age groups) are also a big part of the engagement of the LbhÍ within SUNRISE.

BS and MS projects within this project are available to interested students. Please contact [email protected] or [email protected] !
