Abstract

The metropolitan area has developed significantly in the 20th century to the present day, along with an increase in population. In the regional planning of the metropolitan area, growth boundaries have been established to distinguish urban areas from rural ones. Here is one option to accommodate the population growth within the growth boundaries of the metropolitan area.

Before the analysis of golf courses began, prerequisites for an impartial assessment and a professional result were set forth. This involved the environment of the golf courses, whether they were part of larger recreational areas or if urban development was encroaching upon them. It also considered their impact on transportation connections and whether altered land use could enhance adjacent neighborhoods.

The history of golf development has been reviewed, where significant changes have occurred, and some golf courses have yielded to urban development. Main and zoning plans were considered for the current golf course, and several changes are anticipated for multiple golf courses in the future.

Golf courses cover large areas in the capital city and are mostly located in suburbs. Therefore, the study explored how best to enhance and develop the suburbs.

The evolution of the capital city and how to guide its ongoing development in the right direction were examined. A critical view of the first master plan for Reykjavik from 1962-1983 was the separation of residential and industrial areas. Contemporary policy emphasizes mixed-use development to reduce commuting distances and improve connections.

The conclusion was to analyze Korpúlfsstaðavöllur in more detail for altered land use. Field trips were conducted, a residential survey was carried out, and data analysis was performed. Finally, design proposals were put forward based on the area analysis and academic synthesis.
